Posted on Apr 21, 2008 in News

The UAB Respiratory Therapy Students joined thousands of young people across the country who took part in Kick Butts Day, a nationwide initiative that makes kids leaders in the effort to stop youth tobacco use.

On April 2, 2008, thousands of youth across the country participated in events for Kick Butts Day. They were standing out, speaking up and seizing control in the fight against Big Tobacco.

As part of the Kick Butts Day celebration, UAB’s Respiratory Therapy Students organized a KBD event in front of the UAB Recreational Center. The highly anticipated event turned out to be a complete day of success. The students provided pamphlets on lung health and information on smoking cessation to anyone who stopped by their display.
The day included games and prizes along with free coffee and donuts supplied by one of their sponsors. By the end of the day, the students had 260 signatures of people who signed their pledge board. Those who signed the board, pledged to either quit smoking or to never start smoking.

The Respiratory Therapy Students would like to thank the following sponsors for making their day a success. The sponsors include: The American Lung Association, Krispy Kreme Donuts, Chevron Gas Company, Hong Kong Seafood, Starbucks, and Mark’s Outdoors.
