Betty Boop, 50 Cent, and American Idol — oh my!

Posted on Nov 10, 2008 in Features

With the excitement of the presidential election, it’s hard to believe that anything could happen in the gossip world that might be more interesting. But, interesting things never stop happening in Hollywood, so there’s still gossip to report.
Remember Betty Boop? That singing, dancing, scantily-clad, big-headed cartoon from the ’30s? Well, she’s back, and in a big way.

MSN Entertainment says that Betty Boop will hit Broadway in the 2010-2011 season, and is rumored to feature music from Grammy award-winner David Foster and will play at the Nederlander Theatre.

If you can’t wait that long for a comeback, tune in to “American Idol” upon its return in January.

Entertainment Tonight reports that the show will be different and (hopefully) more entertaining due to new judge Kara DioGuardi. She’s no Betty Boop, but she’s definitely someone to look forward to.

I mean, there’s only so many seasons of Ryan, Randy, Simon, and Paula the American public can take.

In other news, another reality show is coming to the scene, and although it is hosted/created by a rapper, it has nothing to do with singing or rapping. Rapper 50 Cent’s MTV reality show, “50 Cent: The Money and the Power,” gives 14 business savvy contestants a chance at $100, 000 for their new business. According to MSN Entertainment and MTV, this is no “Apprentice.” 50 Cent knows that the premise and title might be misleading, saying that “immediately when you say a reality show that has a business spin to it, they think ‘The Apprentice,’ and the difference is these people don’t actually want to work for me.”

50 Cent’s attempts to rouse the failing economy on MTV first aired Nov. 6.
