F UTURE UAB MEN’S SOCCER PLAYER REED MATTE TABBED AHSAA PLAYER OF THE YEAR

UAB Athletic Department
Future UAB men’s soccer player Reed Matte has been tabbed by The Birmingham News as the Alabama Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Matte, who played under head coach David DiPiazza at John Carroll High School, helped lead the Cavaliers to the Alabama 5A state title this past May.

“I am very pleased to see that Reed has been honored as the Alabama Player of the Year,” Getman said. “He is a terrific soccer player who is going to have a big impact on our team.”

Matte closed an outstanding high school career with 38 goals and 26 assists during his senior season. His team finished the year rated sixth in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. During his four-year career, Matte tallied 109 goals, second on the school’s all-time scoring list, and 68 assists.

When Matte helped lead John Carroll to the 2009 state title, it marked the third time in his four years his team earned a state championship (2008 and 2006). He is also a two-time All-Metro and All-State performer by The Birmingham News.

In addition to Matte’s honor, another future Blazer men’s soccer player, Hudson Jetton of Spain Park High School, was also listed as an honorable mention all-state selection.
