Fashion-forward accessories fill campus

An inside look at the hottest trends during the chilliest season

There are more than just a few fashionistas strutting the sidewalks of UAB.

From fabulous hair to enviable accessories, the ladies on campus are clearly educated in following trends and looking fierce.

Here are some of the most impressive trends going on during the chilly season right now:

1) Slouchy beanies

These knitted or crocheted caps are great for insulating the head on a cold day while concealing all the flyaway hairs brought on by the rain.

One can achieve a very bohemian, effortless look when paired with messy hair and an understated, simple outfit.
The slouchy beanie serves as a sort of fusion between the beret and the toboggan with a messy twist.

2) Leggings as pants

While this one can get a little dicey if not worn properly, sporting leggings as pants provides an edgy flourish to an ensemble.

Both insulating and flattering for girls with great figures, leggings can pair perfectly with a long, loose top.

The key with this trend, though, is contrast. Tights plus a tight top is overkill. Dark hues are chic and much more complementary to the figure than bold, bright colors.

If you aren’t okay with wearing something so clingy as pants, leggings are still hot under dresses and skirts too.

3) Scarves

Still a staple in the world of fashion, scarves adorn the necks of some of UAB’s most style-savvy students.

Whether presented in abstract patterns or simple solids, this accessory has staying power.

One can choose a lighter, more summery material for ornamental purposes or really warm up with something knitted.

4) Blazers

Forget the stuffy, country club set that has become synonymous with the blazer. These are an ideal fit as a jacket over a flowing top or burnout tee with skinny jeans.

Pairing the structure of the blazer with an airy shirt and snug, tapered pants creates an interesting contrast sure to surprise and inspire emulation.

The coats allow for a great deal of versatility, as they come in a wide range of colors and styles, and they are oftentimes conveniently available in a boyfriend’s or brother’s closet.

5) Booties

Whether it be flats, wedges, or sky-scraping heels, the shortened boot pairs well with all of the aforementioned trends.

They can be dressed up or down depending on the rest of your garb and really draw attention to the foot because of their unique shape.

A far cry from the knee-high boots of the past, these hipster favorites are functional without being overly flashy.
