Holiday makeup trends shimmer and shine

While Alabama may only have one or two days that actually fulfill the winter wonderland fantasy, the season always calls for makeup as mesmerizing as a snowfall.
This year’s holiday palette is all about shimmer and shine. Here are a few festive and fabulous trends to try:
Glistening Shadow
Though the holiday season often brings stress and financial concerns, the true spirit of giving and gathering with loved ones provides a whimsical escape from reality.
Eye shadows with sparkle recreate the notion of the fantastic by drawing focus to an engaging, nearly magical, accented eye.
Chanel’s Holiday makeup collection takes color hints from the bold plumage of peacocks and flamingos with shades of pinks and blues accented with glimmering gold, copper and teal.
While Chanel’s collection is pricy (ranging between $23-$56), the shadow is longwearing and comes from a well-respected cosmetic line.
For a cheaper version, try Wet ‘n Wild’s i-Sparkle eye shadow for just under $5 at drug stores.
Sparkle Liner
While the idea of glitter on the rim of the eye may seem as appealing as fruitcake, new formulas employ such minute pieces that you’re safe from any discomfort.
These liners add the ideal amount of glam to any holiday style, especially when paired with luscious black lashes.
Victoria’s Secret Sparkling Eye Liner goes on smooth and allows for a look as sexy as the brand suggests. The liner comes in aqua, lilac and white, priced at around $10 each.
For a great glinting liquid liner, try Hard Candy’s Walk the Line Eye Liner. Available for $6 each, the liquid liner requires a steady hand but stays put and comes in fun shades like Galaxy and Licorice.
Ruby Red Lips
There’s nothing more classic than a well-executed red lip. Sophisticated and sexy at the same time, a bold lip requires the rest of the face to be clean and simple.
In keeping with the shine of the rest of the season’s makeup trends, the best reds should be glossy and moisturizing to keep the look fresh and age-appropriate.
Dior’s Dior Addict High Shine lipstick costs around $25 per tube, but blends high-performance with high-intensity in a way that is sure to turn heads during the holidays.
Covergirl’s Outlast LipShine is a double-ended wand that provides both color and gloss in one convenient package (try the Carat Ruby or Candy Apple) for a wallet-friendly $10.
