MC Chris rocks Bottletree

MC Chris once again rocked the audience at the Bottletree Café in Birmingham with his signature high pitch vocals and geek rock rap, sometimes classified as “nerdcore.”
There was a mixture of people there jamming out to well-known songs to fans like “Wiid,” “Fett’s Vette” and “The Tussin.” The rapper, who gained a majority of his popularity with his work on the Adult Swim series “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” as the voice of MC Pee Pants, also played songs from his Part Six Extended Play (EP) series and new online album “apple tummy.”
The audience was definitely pleased with Chris’ performance — several mosh pits broke out during the flawless concert.
MC Chris’ tour manager, Joe “Sully” Sullivan, said the artist loves coming to Birmingham because of the support he gets from his fans in the area and is especially fond of performing at The Bottletree.
“We love it here,” Sullivan said. “We were just here in April or May, and he requested that we come back here. It’s a great place. The room’s nice. The backstage area is great. They’re very good for bands on the road. They take care of them.”
Sully said MC Chris hopes to return to Bottletree within the next year.
He also added that MC Chris has great respect for his fans and for that reason tries to make it affordable for all his fans to be able to come to his shows.
“He’s very fan-orientated. There’s no reason to have a ticket that expensive. To have a ticket about $10 or $12 for a show like this is perfect,” Sullivan said.
Another reason MC Chris keeps touring besides the pure enjoyment of it is to help raise money and awareness for his 18-month-old nephew Murray, who has cystic fibrosis, Sullivan said.
“He doesn’t just do this for his nephew. He does this for others with the same condition in general,” he said.
At each concert, MC Chris asks for donations to go toward the Murray Walter Goff Fund, which funds research for the condition. More information on donating and cystic fibrosis can be found at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Web site, http://www.cff.org. There is also a blog MC Chris wrote about finding out about his nephew being born with the condition and how to make donations to the fund on his MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/mcchris.
I Fight Dragons and Whole Wheat Bread with their mixture of rap, rock, metal and maybe even a little punk also revved up the audience as the opening acts for MC Chris.
“This is a little bit of a different tour for us. The tour in general is amazing. MC Chris is a really cool guy,” said Mr. Whitefolks, the band’s drummer.
Whitefolks said the band just did a track with one of their influences, Lil Jon, on his upcoming album.
“We will probably be doing a tour with him. We just signed the contract two weeks ago,” he said.
