BASKETBALL
Men and women to compete in conference tourneys

With their regular season schedules completed, the men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to compete in their respected conference tournaments.

The women, who competed before print, on Monday against Tulsa, took the No. 6 seed in the women’s tournament.
They will need to decidedly win the conference, for their hopes for an at-large bid most likely not to be fulfilled.

The Blazer men however, do have a stronger chance at an at-large bid, but with the back-to-back losses against Memphis and UTEP, they too, will need a strong showing at conference, if not to actually walk away with the title.

As the No. 3 seed, they do have a first round bye, but to ultimately reach the final, they would have to defeat Memphis who recently edged the Blazers out at Bartow Arena.

With their hopes for a NCAA bid dwindling, the men will put all of their will and testimony into their Thursday afternoon match-up against the winner of the No. 6 seed Southern Miss and No. 11 seed Tulsa.

Thursday’s contest will be televised nationally on CBS College Sports and can also be heard on the Blazers’ ISP Radio at 2:30 p.m. CT.

BASEBALL
Set for weeknight game against Alabama State

After their home stint this past weekend against Eastern Illinois University, the Blazer baseball team will be host to Alabama State for a Tuesday evening game.

This weekend, the men will head out to California for a tour against some of the best teams in the country.

They will challenge the likes of San Diego, San Diego State, the 2008 National Champs Fresno State and Cal State Fullerton, a team that has made it to the College World Series six times in the last decade, winning the title in 2004.

SOFTBALL
To host Jacksonville St. for Tuesday evening matchup

The softball team will take on Jacksonville State University at home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Lady Blazers will also be opening up their conference schedule this weekend at home against Tulsa, the defending C-USA champions.

TRACK
NCAA Indoor Nationals

The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., at the University of Arkansas.

Although the final heat sheets and qualifiers are not determined, UAB’s junior Nora Mehl is the lone provisional qualifier for the championships.

If not enough athletes meet the automatic national qualifying standards, Mehl has a chance to compete in Arkansas this weekend.
