Getting down with Dean DiLorenzo

Posted on Jul 26, 2010 in Features

Kaleidoscope gets the drop on the new College of Arts & Sciences dean Thomas DiLorenzo’s personal picks.

Kaleidoscope: What is your Favorite Film?

DiLorenzo: "I don’t have a favorite, because I have this quirk – I never, ever watch a movie more than once."

What is your Favorite Music Group or Performer?

"I have a memory of moving out of a dorm at the end of my freshman year and hearing Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run.’ I still remember that, and play it around graduation every year when the students are moving out."

What is your Favorite Book?

"My favorite book right now is “Good to Great” by Jim Collins. It’s an analysis of good companies that became great companies as opposed to good companies that did not become great or failed.
It’s been on the best seller lists of The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Business Week. I saw him at a recent American Council on Education meeting, where he was applying the his findings to higher education. I would love to talk with students about this some time."

Favorite TV Show?

"This last season, it was ‘Modern Family’. “

Favorite Sports Team”
"The UAB Blazers, of course!"

Favorite Hobby?
"Cooking is my favorite hobby. Any kind of Italian food, I was raised on that."

Favorite Food?
"Italian food is my favorite. I’m a vegetarian; my favorite vegetable would probably be eggplant."
