Football fan day fun for all

Posted on Aug 23, 2010 in Sports

Saturday marked the beginning of the fall sports season with a clear indication that the loyal Blazer fans are ready for action.

Whether it be anticipating the first football game of the 2010 season, the high expectations of the volleyball team, the stylish Stevie Wonder tunes of the marching band, the artistic lines of the Golden Girls, or the high-flying tosses of the cheerleaders, there is a lot to be excited about this fall.

Cindy Godwin, the President of the National Alumni Society, in her tenure as a Blazer fan, alumnus, and president, has been present for every Fan Day. She spoke proudly of the event, “This is great because it gives the players a chance to put a face to the screaming and cheering fans.”

“It is also great for us, because we as supporters are able to meet the players. We get to know them as freshmen, and we grow with them till husband and ‘I do’s,”’ said Godwin.

Fans of all ages from the Blazer community were able to partake in a breakfast served by the football team, an extensive autograph session with the team, cheerleaders, and Golden Girls, share in the green and gold spirit with the band, and even have a little fun while watching the volleyball team show up the football team in the second annual volleyball/football scrimmage. The score was 22-8.

The celebrations are all building up to the first football game of the year against Florida Atlantic on September 2.
