What to watch for in Blazer sports

Posted on Aug 23, 2010 in Sports

It’s that time again Blazer Fans, the humidity is growing, classes are starting and the inevitable procrastination for those classes is just beginning. Fall season has approached us and with that comes the start of some entertaining play in Blazer athletics.

The women of UAB Soccer got the ball rolling last week as they opened their five-game SEC series with games against Florida, Vanderbilt and Alabama. The Lady Blazers will travel to Mississippi this week where they will take on Mississippi State Friday night followed by a meeting with the Rebels of Ole Miss Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Blazers will look to find the success they had last year against Ole Miss as they defeated the Rebels 1-0 in Birmingham one year ago.

UAB Men’s Soccer opened their preseason on the road as they travelled to South Carolina to take on the Clemson Tigers over the weekend. As for this week, the Blazers will take part in another road exhibition at Georgia State on Wednesday night before playing their first home match of the year against UNC Wilmington. The Blazers and Seahawks will face off at West Campus Field Saturday night at 7PM.

Lastly, UAB Football will be on the practice fields this week finishing up their last preparations for the start of the 2010 season. Blazer fans can get their first glimpse of life after Joe Webb when they begin play against Florida Atlantic at home on Thursday September 2. Be sure to come support all the UAB teams this season as it looks to be a very entertaining one to say the least.
