Blazer Nights gets a chilled twist

Posted on Feb 01, 2012 in News

Over 400 students came out to enjoy Blazer Nights “Winter Extravaganza” held Friday night inside the Campus Recreation Center.

Free food, Wii games, and having your picture taken inside of a large snow globe, were just a few things that students were treated to during this event. There was also music playing and a lot of friendly faces and opportunities for mingling in the large crowd

The centerpiece of the festivities was the ice skating rink that was placed over one of the Recreation Center’s basketball courts, a sight not many students expected to see.

“I really wanted to see how they were going to be able to make an ice skating rink inside the rec center; I think they did a great job,” said Freshman Victoria Enyinda

As with every Blazer Nights occasion, a movie was also showing for students who wanted a more relaxing environment after a long school week. This month’s feature was “Footloose”.

Blazer nights teamed up with the Blazer Male Excellence Network, Films & Novelties, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to host something new and exciting.

Freshman Krystal Turner said, “I have had a lot of fun. Everyone I know is here but there is also a diverse group of people to meet and lots of activities to do so I would definitely say it was a success

Dominique Forte, member of the Blazer Night Committee and secretary for Alpha Kappa Alpha, said they had a really good turnout.

“It’s definitely the best turnout we have had since the first one of the school year in August. The co-sponsors of this event wanted to try to do something bigger and different. We wanted to offer the students something they weren’t expecting, something big,” said Forte.

“We always seek suggestions from the students about what they would like to do for Blazer Nights and this was just something creative. It was a way we could put a new spin it,” she explained.

Blazer Nights holds a monthly Friday night event for students to enjoy and it is always free of charge.
