Don’t let her radio persona fool you. Not only is she a spit-fire, Christina Daniel is also a very bright and talented student at UAB.

On BlazeRadio, Daniel is DJ Lady Danger, bringing listeners a mix of indie rock and punk music since her sophomore year every Friday from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

“I was originally drawn to BlazeRadio because of the freedom I saw that DJs had with their shows, and how it could be used to expose UAB’s student body and others to local art and music,” she said. “It’s a pretty cool extracurricular activity that’s still very much involved with university events.”

To show her love and appreciation of independent music even further, Daniel interns at Bottletree, a local music venue.

Aside from her show, she is a junior in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program with a concentration in graphic design.

“I’m hoping to use what I learn here at [UAB] to go on to work for a design agency, and maybe eventually begin my own,” stated Daniel.

“I always knew that I wanted to go into a career involving graphics and advertising, and I’m looking forward to the future,” she added.

Daniel is rooted all over the country, being a self-proclaimed “army brat.” She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but spent most of her teenage years in Huntsville before moving to Birmingham.

“I don’t really call anywhere home, but I do think that Birmingham has a lot to offer, it’s just a matter of tapping into the right resources,” she stated.

She will have her talent on display at this year’s Artopia: The State of Art on Friday, February 24 at Easy Street. Among many other artists, Daniel believes in unifying Birmingham’s diverse and eccentric creative community by having her work as well as others’ featured in an annual show.

The organization was created last year to showcase up-and-coming artists in the area.

“I want to put work in and support Artopia because some of my good friends put a lot of work into making it happen. It’s an awesome concept, and is doing pretty well for how new it is,” Daniel said.
