UAB to host award-winning poet

Award-winning poet and Utah State University Professor Michael Sowder will be the second author presented in the UAB Writers’ Series at 6 p.m. Feb. 12 in Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. South. The event is free and open to the public.

Sowder’s first book of poetry, “The Empty Boat,” won the 2004 T.S. Eliot Award, and his chapbook, “A Calendar of Crows,” won the inaugural New Michigan Press Award. “Whitman’s Ecstatic Union,” Sowder’s study of Walt Whitman’s poetry, was published by Routledge in 2005.
