Provost announces Shannon Blanton as the inaugural dean of the Honors College

In a faculty email sent out today Provost Linda Lucas has announced the name of the first dean of the new UAB Honors College. The new college combines the existing honors programs under one banner. To learn more about the change click here.
I am pleased to announce that Shannon Blanton, Ph.D., has been named the inaugural dean of the UAB Honors College.  Dr. Blanton comes to UAB from the University of Memphis, where she was professor of Political Science and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs, responsible to the Provost for leadership and oversight of undergraduate programs.  Blanton has 19 years of experience as university faculty, department chair, and vice provost.
Thank you once again to each of you and your students for your participation in this important process.  A special thanks to search committee chair, Dr. Bob Palazzo, and to the Honors College Dean Search Committee members for their invaluable input and dedication to making this process run as smoothly as it did,
