One of the most useful utensils a college student can have in their kitchen is a crockpot. As I’ve said in a previous article, crockpots are these amazing little inventions that can give someone a delicious, home cooked meal without the person even having to be around. Getting my crockpot was the greatest decision I’ve ever made. I can put as many or as few ingredients as I want into the crockpot, leave for class or work, and have a delicious dinner waiting for me when I get home… Read More

Alright comrades, I have a confession to make. I don’t ALWAYS eat healthy.
Today for example I indulged in a delicious bacon cheeseburger from Five Guys and Fries. But that’s okay! Because it isn’t possible to eat healthy all the time. Sometimes your body just demands fatty cheesy goodness. The goal, however, is to limit your fatty cheesy goodness to just once or twice a month and eat relatively healthy 98% of the month. Now, I know fat gets a bad reputation w… Read More

As businesses migrated to the new shopping centers of the suburbs, buildings were left behind to rust.
The once vibrant window displays morphed into broken glass and memories of what the neighborhood once was.
In 2007, the empty neighborhood was given a ray of hope with the opening of What’s on Second.
“We wanted to reinvent the antique shop in Birmingham,” said What’s on Second co-owner Steve Gilmer. “We deal a lot in historic Birmingham memorabilia, smalls, and

One of the things I hear my fellow college comrades complaining about is not having mom around to make her world famous “insert food here”. With universities being surrounded by so many fast food restaurants, it’s hard for one to not miss the comforts of mom’s home cooking.
I know that one dish I can’t live without is my mother’s home made macaroni and cheese. My childhood is filled with memories of that delicious cheesy goodness. I’ve been very blessed to have my… Read More
