FanFest gets Blazers fired up

The 2012 Blazer FanFEST took place last Saturday, April 21 at the West Campus Field prior to UAB Football’s annual Spring Game.
The event featured face painting and balloon artistry, along with live music from the Beatlands, Birmingham’s Beatles tribute band.
As early as 7 a.m., fans, students and alumni began to gather their tents and tables to set up “Tent City,” the university’s new tailgating hotspot, right outside the sand volleyball courts.

Aaron Johnson represents the UAB family abroad

In 2007, UAB welcomed Aaron Johnson as he joined the basketball team as point guard. Johnson, who stands 5’8” and weighs 185 pounds, grew up in Illinois as the fourth child out of twelve. In high school Johnson led his team to three regional championships and was named MVP three times. Out of twelve children, Aaron Johnson was the first to attend and graduate college. GSSA hosts day of silence for acceptance of LGBTQ students

The Gay Straight Student Alliance hosted the National Day of Silence by handing out buttons and flyers on April 19 and 20.
The Day of Silence is a day on which students across the country take some form of a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Through their activities students can speak out against harassment and advocate change for their schools and communities.

One in every 88 children in the U.S. now have Autism, according to the latest study by the Center for Disease Control in March 2012.
In response to the challenges of the number of new cases, the Alabama Senate voted 32-0 for legislation in favor of private insurance companies to offer more health coverage for autism treatment, according to Bama Hager, parent advocate for the Autism Bill and Policy Advisor of the Autism Society of Alabama.

The School of Business will experience a culinary makeover starting on May 14.
ZeBi, short for Zest Bistro, will feature items such as freshly made sandwiches, baked goods, salads and soups, in addition to fair trade coffee and organic tea. The new bistro will occupy the existing grab-and-go area in the lobby.
ZeBi is slated to open in August during the first week of the fall semester.
