There’s a new philosophy on the dirt of Young Memorial Field this week where is seems that every Blazer loss brings about a greater win. The belief holds true for the men of the mound as an early defeat this week brought about an equal series of wins for the team.
Numbers were high by the end of Tuesday night’s match, at least for the opposing team, Kennesaw State, who took the Blazers by an odd five points.

The NBA D-League finals saw plenty of Green and Gold this past weekend. Three players wearing UAB uniforms were in action: Cardell ‘Squeaky’ Johnson, Jamarr Sanders, and Elijah Millsap.
Elijah Millsap left UAB a year early to put his name in the NBA draft but did not make a team. He has however made a name for himself in the developmental league.
Millsap averaged 23.7 points and grabbed 6.4 rebounds over the cour
Softball sweeps the week

It seems like if there’s one thing the women of the UAB softball team don’t know how to do, it’s lose. Their 4-0 record this week proves how capable the women are when it comes to bringing home the gold.
In last week’s first head to head, the women traveled to Tennessee’s capitol for an old-fashioned take down against Lipscomb. Neither game saw the the ladies of Lipscomb advance to third as the Blazer defense went strong.

Haase signs first recruit, prepares for next season

After 13 seasons of coaching under Roy Williams, Jerod Haase was finally named head coach for the UAB Blazers basketball team this past March. During the introductory press conference Haase explained that he doesn’t have a five year plan—his plan starts now. He has committed to creating a winning program.

The NFL draft took place this weekend in New York as juniors and seniors from across the nation sat in hopes to be drafted and live out their big league dreams. Fans nationwide waited in anticipation for their favorite college players’ names to be called, or for their favorite team to have the perfect pick.

FanFest packs the house for the spring game

“I am really happy with our crowd and our fan base and saw a lot of faculty staff and students out on the field today. That is really important,” said first year head coach Garrick McGee about the spring game. “I think we are starting to develop a fan base that wants to support our kids.”

UAB concludes inaugural Sand Volleyball season

“We played really well in the second match,” said head coach Hal Messersmith about the UAB sand volleyball team’s recent matches. “In the first match, Florida State came out pretty hot and we struggled a bit. But we beat a pretty good Florida Atlantic team and I’m happy with the way we played.”
The UAB volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, falling to Florida State 5-0 and defeating Florida Atlantic later the same day, 3-2.

Womens tennis comes up short in C-USA tournament

The UAB women’s tennis team traveled up to Memphis to try and bring home the C-USA title, but came up short after putting on a good show. The Blazers returned from a 3-0 deficit Thursday but came up one match shy in the first round of the Conference USA Championship.

Softball blast three straight wins

The UAB women saw a lot of road this week between their matches in Chattanooga and El Paso. One thing the ladies did not see a lot of, however, was loss. The Blazers were taken down in only one game over the course of their travels, letting their winnings travel far and wide.
Before any wins came along, the women mercilessly gave away a close title to Chattanooga in their first face-off on Wednesday.
