Student Forum inspires change

Student Forum got students, faculty and administration together to talk about the future of UAB.
Students brought questions while deans and presidents of different departments brought answers.

BSAC forum discusses MLK’s ‘Letter from a Birmingham Jail’

Students of the Black Student Awareness Committee at UAB led a weeklong MLK observance on campus. Almost 48 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. used tissue paper to write his famous letter while serving time in the Birmingham city jail for an “unlawful”, non-violent protest.

USGA sponsors student forum; Students express concerns for campus

Around 60 students took advantage of the opportunity to speak directly with university administrators at the USGA Student Forum on Friday, Oct. 1.

Big changes coming to campus; Officials propose new dorm and Bartow revamp

A multitude of changes for the campus, including a new dorm and renovations to Bartow, requiring $100 million in new bonds, were proposed at the University of Alabama Board of Trustees meeting on September 16 and 17.

BSAC forum focuses on ‘colorism’ in America

The Black Student Awareness Committee (BSAC) hosted “Shades: A Look at Colorism” in the Alumni Auditorium on Tuesday.
The forum focused on colorism, defined as “discrimination in which human beings are accorded differing social treatment based on skin color.”
Colorism often refers to when people discriminate within their own ethnic groups: when lighter skin is preferred and darker skin is less desirable or vice versa.
